Hotels & RVs

Hotel Accommodations

ALL exhibitors and spectators must do all possible to keep these establishments clean. Please remind people who are exercising dogs in designated areas to clean up and show those who do not know where exercise areas are located. Any Poodle “accident” that happens must be taken care of immediately – whether it was caused by your dog or one belonging to someone else. Noise from Poodles left unattended MUST not be an issue. Please be especially conscious of the need to be clean, courteous and quiet guests who just happen to have Poodles in their rooms. Expect additional rules and requirements for those staying at the hotel with Poodles. PLEASE REMEMBER: HOTELS ARE AN EXTENSION OF THE SHOW SITE AND ALL AKC AND PCA RULES ARE ENFORCED AT BOTH LOCATIONS. DOGS MAY NOT BE BATHED IN, HOTEL ROOMS, LEFT LOOSE OR UNATTENDED. A bathing facility is available at the Wicomico Civic Center. Exhibitors will be held responsible for any damage to their hotel rooms. AKC has ruled that clubs do not have to accept entries from irresponsible owners or handlers. PLEASE exercise dogs at the motels and the Civic Center in designated areas only. Dogs must be crated and not left unattended.

The following is a list of motels in the area. Please check when making reservations as to whether dogs are accepted. Be sure to mention that you will be attending The Poodle Club of America National Specialty.

Grooming Area Décor Competition

This year's theme: "April In Salisbury." Grooming area décor competition prizes and piggy contest prizes are compliments of Wicomico County Tourism.

Grooming Considerations

Please remember that Traditional trims as described in the Standard of the Breed are required for entrants in the Hunting Dog/Bitch Classes for Standard Poodles – i.e., Puppy Trim if under one year of age, English Saddle or Continental Trim – hip pompoms are optional in the Continental Trim and the mane coat may be shortened and the topknot scissored. There seems to be some confusion between the regular Veterans Classes for dogs and bitches which are judged on Friday just before judging of each of the three Best of Variety competition and the Veterans Sweepstakes competition which is judged on Thursday following regular class judging. The difference is as follows: The Veterans Class is a regular, AKC class offered at dog shows. Poodles must be in approved trims as the winner of the Veterans classes (dogs and bitches) is eligible to compete for Best of Variety. The Veterans Sweepstakes is a non regular competition with alternate trims accepted as described below. Only Veterans Sweepstakes allows a trim that differs from those described in the Standard of the Breed for competition in all regular and non-regular classes including the Parade of Champions/Title Holders and Junior Showmanship. For Veterans Sweepstakes Only: Any Clip WITH THE EXCEPTION OF DESIGNER OR GROOMING CONTEST CLIPS. Face and feet shaved. Ears may be tasseled, feathered or shaved. Tail may have a pompom or short blanket of hair. No fancy adornments (e.g. collars, bows, bandannas). No clip that would let the Poodle resemble any other breed.
